Basic Firefighter Written Practice Exam

The correct placement of the ladder tip for entry or rescue from a window is slightly below the sill. This positioning is crucial because it allows the firefighter or the individual being rescued to safely clear the window frame while accessing the opening. By being slightly below the sill, the ladder tip provides a sturdy and secure support that helps prevent slipping and ensures that there is enough room to maneuver.

Approaching the window in this manner also reduces the risk of the ladder tipping backward or sliding out when weight is applied, which can happen if the ladder is placed at or above the sill. Ensuring that the ladder is positioned appropriately enhances safety for both the firefighter and the persons involved in the rescue operation, making it easier to enter or exit while maintaining balance and stability.
